Article: How Cerebrospinal Fluid May Act as a Vehicle for The Mind-Body-Spirit Connection

Is this "Spirit Juice?"

"Fluids come together and the 'I Am' appears."

The cerebrospinal fluid isn’t something most of us think a lot about. Craniosacral therapy and polarity therapy are two disciplines, however, that have an intimate relationship with this amazing and mysterious liquid.

The cerebrospinal fluid is produced in the embryo as a means of taking in information from the external environment, and it remains an essential component of the central nervous system in the developing and adult human.

Take a moment to ponder the crucially important bodily locales where the CSF resides and functions…

  • It completely surrounds the brain and spinal cord on the outside.
  • It fills a cavity inside the spinal cord, as well as three ventricles inside the brain.
  • Via the brain ventricles, this precious life fluid makes contact with the critically important pituitary and pineal glands, thalamus and hypothalamus, as well as all four cerebral lobes (frontal, occipital, parietal, and temporal), and can transmit information simultaneously to all these parts with no synapse (which is required for other functions within the brain and spinal cord).

Another fascinating point to note is the space where the CSF is contained in the brain has been called the Crystal Palace and the Cave of Brahma in some Hindu/yogic traditions.

It's apparent that this is important stuff!

Craniosacral therapy involves manipulation and action upon the CSF through light touch. It has been shown to improve stress-management coping mechanisms, and to “improve the body’s ability to self-care, producing profound, positive changes,” according to Upledger Institute International

Could this be the fluid through which spiritual messages are transmitted to the physical body as well?

According to Randolph Stone, the founder of Polarity Therapy, “the soul swims in the CSF,” and “the cerebrospinal fluid seems to act as a storage field and conveyor for the ultrasonic and light energies.”

Indeed, it has been found that the CSF can transmit light, vibrations, movement and molecules which are picked up by photoreceptors, chemoreceptors, and mechanoreceptors in the cerebral ventricles.

One individual who has done extensive research on the topic of the role of the CSF in human consciousness and spiritual connection is Mauro Zappaterra, a Harvard-trained physician who is also certified in Craniosacral Therapy, Polarity Therapy, and Reiki. He believes “the cerebrospinal fluid is a potential conveyor of source energy to our physical bodies through which the ‘I Am’ is experienced, “ and that it may “absorb, store and transmit the essence of the source, allowing us to be aware or conscious of our beingness.”

Something that seems to corroborate this assertion is the fact that DMT, a substance that has been called the “spirit molecule” by clinical psychiatrist and author Rick Strassman, is transmitted via the cerebrospinal fluid. DMT is present in some hallucinogenic plants, and is also produced by the human body at times of birth, death, and lucid dreaming. It can induce near-death, out of body, and mystical experiences, among other “other-worldly” occurrences.

So, what do you think? Is the cerebrospinal fluid our own internal spirit juice?
