Article: Sigils: Healing Spells For Spiritual Awakening and Manifestation

By: Adriane Laws

May the force be with you...

What if you could harness a powerful force of spiritual awakening and manifestation capable of making your dreams and goals a reality? What if it had been prepared to operate in this capacity as long as you have been alive, ready to be charged with an intention to carry out your greatest desires?

There is a force already working in just this manner. That force is your subconscious mind.

Subconscious/Unconscious Power:

In the documentary “What the Bleep Do We Know”7, Dr. Joe Dispenza tells us that a healthy human brain can process 400 billion bits of information per second. However, we are only conscious of about 2,000 of those 400 billion bits of information. What this means is that the subconscious mind is taking in exponentially more information than we are consciously aware of. Why is this? It's because there is so much information available in our environment that nature created a mechanism (the subconscious) to take it all in, and then "weed out" the things that are not important for our survival in the moment. Meaning, it only relays messages to the conscious mind that it deems necessary and pertinent.

As reported in an article in the NY Times titled Who's Minding the Mind, Mark Schaller, a psychologist at the University of British Colombia has stated, based on his research, “Sometimes nonconscious effects can be bigger in sheer magnitude than conscious ones because we can’t moderate stuff we don’t have conscious access to, and the goal stays active.”2

What that means, in a nutshell, is our subconscious mind is running the show, not our conscious mind. So, once an idea or intention is instilled in the subconscious, it will actively pursue that goal until it becomes a reality, even against the will of the conscious mind.

So, how can the subconscious mind override our conscious goals?

Author U.S. Andersen was aware of the gravity of influence of the subconscious mind when he published the book,The Magic in Your Mind, in 1961. He refers to the subconscious mind as "the secret self" in the following quote: “Your Secret Self is a giant self, dwarfing into nothingness your surface mind and ego. It is a self without limits in space and time, and anything is possible to it. Its manifestations on the human scene sometimes seem supernatural.” (1,p.29)

So, when the subconscious mind sets out to do something, it's as if a spell has been cast, and it will do everything in its power to manifest that objective.

Who Decides?

It's important to note, the subconscious mind can be influenced into thinking and doing things that are not in line with our true desires.

John A. Bargh, a professor of psychology at Yale and a co-author, with Lawrence Williams, of the coffee study, which was presented at a recent psychology conference, states, “We’re finding that we have these unconscious behavioral guidance systems that are continually furnishing suggestions through the day about what to do next, and the brain is considering and often acting on those, all before conscious awareness.

Sometimes those goals are in line with our conscious intentions and purposes, and sometimes they’re not.”2

Wow! our unconscious mind makes decisions for us without our conscious consent!

And, what about the COLLECTIVE UNCONSCIOUS. Imagine! If the subconscious mind of an individual is so powerful as to somehow drive our actions toward a goal we don't even consciously desire, how powerful is the collective unconscious of a group of individuals that has been charged with the same goal?

(For the remainder of this article, the terms subconscious and unconscious will be used interchangeably).

Has Our Collective Unconscious Been Hacked?

Now ponder this: if survival is the objective of the subconscious mind, how filled with fear and apprehension must it be in today's world... And how magnified are those charges in the collective unconscious? If we could open it up and look inside, we would see concerns like: How will I pay my bills? What if something happens to my children? What if I get cancer? Do my co-workers like me? Will I lose my job? Will I lose my home? Will my family have enough to eat? Am I good enough? Do I look young enough? Will I find the right partner or spouse? Am I eating the right foods? Am I exercising enough? Will I have enough money to retire? Is there going to be a war? How will we survive in an increasingly toxic environment? What if the government collapses? The list goes on and on...

And then, there's the barrage of media advertisements telling us what we need in order to survive in the world. We need all the right devices that have to be upgraded on the regular. We need certain types of clothes, the right kind of car, and a beautiful home. We need to watch the right programs, listen to the right music, use the right language, be seen with the right group of people, engage in certain types of fun and entertainment. And we want our children to have friends and fit in, so we feel compelled to address all those issues for them as well.

The level of censorship in our media becomes more and more apparent as well. More than any of us realize, the PROGRAMS we watch, the CHANNELS that are available to us, popular music, and news outlets expose us to a very narrow slice of the whole of reality. And many of them are designed to construct a certain type of human... a consumer of goods and services who is vulnerable and easily manipulated.

One of the many mechanisms used by mainstream media channels to manipulate the collective unconscious is the induction of alpha brain waves. This happens when digital video is aired at 200 frames per second. Since the brain, in beta state, can only process 25-60 frames per second, this overwhelms the left brain and causes it to shift into alpha. In alpha, the brain can only process 20-30 frames per second. That means the extra 170-180 frames are not perceived by the conscious mind, but are instead in a sense "implanted" into the subconscious. Incidentally, alpha, along with theta brain waves are instrumental in hypnotherapy and self-hypnosis because they make the mind more open to suggestion. Alpha and Theta waves are also achieved in states of deep meditation.

Corporations, politicians, advertisers, movie, music and television production companies, and even our own government have researched and honed techniques such as the one discussed above as a means of swaying human thought and opinion for as long as they have been in operation. Billions of dollars have been spent for this purpose. They are fully aware of the capabilities of the subconscious mind and the collective unconscious.

A CIA memo from June,1951 titled "Scientific Methods for Controlling the Minds of Individuals," stated: “The aim is controlling an individual to the point where he will do our bidding against his will, and even against such fundamental laws of nature as self-preservation.”4

The best way to attain such a diabolical objective is to gain control of the collective unconscious.

I'm not bringing all this up to paint a dismal picture, though it may seem that way at the moment.

I'm bringing it up to illuminate just how important the powers of subconscious and collective unconscious are. The good news will come further on in this article. So keep reading...

Interestingly, the tools used for these nefarious means are ancient. And, while they may have become more sophisticated, they still work effectively in their simple format, especially when we make a CONSCIOUS DECISION to use them for creating a more optimal life experience. These tools are called MAGICAL, because they were developed by ancient magicians as a means of conscious manifestation via the unlimited power of the subconscious mind. Maybe that's why MAGIC has been considered a taboo subject in many ways throughout our history. Because the tools work best for clandestine manipulation when the subject is unaware they are being used. It really isn't "magic" at all. It's simply how things work. Once an idea is implanted in the subconscious, the conscious mind will be compelled to make it happen... without even being aware it is being manipulated!

Who do you want controlling your thoughts and actions? If you want it to be you, you have to become very aware of the messages you are sending your subconscious mind.

The most powerful messages we send our subconscious mind are the words we speak and think... about ourselves, about our circumstances, and about others. There is a reason for the term CASTING A SPELL. It's because letters and words carry frequencies. So, each time we use words, in speech or in thought, we are, in essence, casting a spell. Numerous religious texts relate that the world was SPOKEN into existence.

Words have power!

One of my favorite books is The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. It's a simple formula for living a good life. The first "agreement" Ruiz proposes we make with ourselves is "Be impeccable with your word." He elaborates, "Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using your word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love."5 Ruiz clearly understands that words are spells.

Sigil Magic: A Tool For Reclaiming Our Power

So, let's talk about one simple and effective tool for taking back the awesome power of your subconscious mind by creating HEALING SPELLS with your words: The sigil. Creating sigils can be a fun and creative way to manifest your desires, and they use some of the same mechanisms we have already discussed. They tap into the automatic action of the subconscious mind and PROGRAM it to carry out whatever intention the sigil is charged with... YOUR INTENTION, not someone else's! And they use some of the most powerful symbols in the world... the letters of the alphabet.

According to Merriam-Webster.com, a sigil is a sign, word or device held to have occult power in astrology or magic.

Auston Osman Spare is credited with developing the method for sigil creation most commonly used today. Spare stated, "The conscious mind is not directly capable of performing magic (in fact, it inhibits magic), so the subconscious mind must have the magical intent implanted in it somehow it so that it might 'unconsciously' manipulate aetheric information to bring about the result.” And he defined sigils as "monograms of thought, for the government of energy ... a mathematical means of symbolizing desire and giving it form that has the virtue of preventing any thought and association on that particular desire (at the magical time), escaping the detection of the ego, so that it does not restrain or attach such desire to its own transitory images, memories and worries, but allows it free passage to the sub-conscious."6

So, in a way, a sigil is like a "slight of mind," similar to how magic tricks are "slight of hand." The sigil tricks the conscious mind into looking the other way while the thought or intention taps into a place where true powers of manifestation reside... Sound familiar?

Creating Your Own Sigil

So, let's get down to brass tacks and talk about how you can create your own sigil! All you need is a pencil and a sheet of paper. Here are the steps:

  • The first step is to construct your intention statement. There are some guidelines that need to be followed for this. First of all, it should be a positive statement in the present tense. For example, if your intention is to stop smoking, your statement would be something like, "I am free from the desire to smoke," or "I am an ex-smoker," as opposed to "I do not smoke anymore." Once you have your intention statement, write it on your piece of paper.
  • Now cross out all the vowels in your statement.
  • Next, cross out all the recurring consonants. So, at this point, if your statement was, "I am free from the desire to smoke," you will end up with the letters: MFRTHDSK
  • Now for the creative part! To construct your sigil, use the letters to form a picture of sorts. The simplest process is to use the letters in their original form, which I'll do here as an example. But, you can get even more creative if you like and use pictures or symbols to represent some or all of the letters. For instance, you could draw a ring to represent the letter R, or a sunshine symbol to represent the letter S. Here is the sigil I created with those letters:

After you have created your sigil, it needs to be charged. But, here's the hard part: Before the sigil is charged, the meaning must be forgotten. So, do whatever you need to do to forget the original intention statement. This may mean making a few sigils at once and then hiding them away for a week or so until you have forgotten what each one is for. The purpose of this is to keep your conscious mind from getting stuck in preconceived notions or patterns of thought that impede the charging process. Your conscious mind has likely already been PROGRAMMED (by your unconscious fears and doubts of course) to believe your intention cannot happen. So we don't want it trying to step in and start running the automatic programs it has already been imprinted with. In a way, the conscious mind is like a guard that abuses his subjects simply because he has been given orders to do so. But in this case, the guard is the conscious mind, the subject is you, and the orders have been given by a completely manipulated subconscious mind. We have to get past the guard in order to introduce a new program. But don't worry. The subconscious mind won't forget the meaning of the sigil.

Charging Your Sigil

This is the part where the sigil gets implanted into your subconscious. Most importantly for this step, you'll want to get yourself into a meditative, or altered state of consciousness. That's because a sigil is a form of magical SPELL, and successfully charging a spell requires direct access to the subconscious mind. This cannot occur while one is in a normal state of consciousness. (Remember alpha waves occur during states of meditation, and that's what opens the mind to suggestion). Your "suggestion" here is simply the picture that is your sigil, because you no longer remember what it means. So focus on the sigil as a whole, not the individual letters it represents. The subconscious mind is more easily programmed with symbols than with words. The purpose of this step is to allow the symbol to be implanted in the deepest recesses of the subconscious mind, and of course, the intention goes with it. Spare described this as "drinking the sigil into the mind." If you like, you can choose to do a ritual act around the sigil, such as burning incense or candles, praying, singing, dancing or chanting. Anything that helps anchor you in a state of openness and receptivity will give the sigil a greater charge and anchor it more deeply into the unconscious mind.

Activating Your Sigil

The last step in the process is activating your sigil. To do this, the sigil has to be destroyed. So, you can burn it, bury it, dissolve it in water, tear it into tiny pieces, or any other action you desire. In this way, you release the intention held within the sigil to the universe so the law of attraction can take effect.

Spare also advises not to linger in the meditative state or do any other magical operations after the activation is completed. In fact, it is best to do something completely ordinary for the next day (or at least 3 hours, which is, according to psychologists the amount of time it takes for the implantation process to complete; otherwise, you risk having the sigil float back into the conscious mind and get dumped by the short term memory). "The idea is to shut the doors to the subconscious and give the sigil, and only the sigil, a chance to become firmly implanted without any spurious thoughts connected to it."6

Using Sigil Magic to Advance Humanity

Each time we attain higher levels of consciousness, (which is what we do when we learn how to properly use manifestation tools for good), we advance all of humanity, because we are all connected. In fact, bringing our collective unconscious into full conscious awareness is the goal of existence. It's like a game we play with the cosmos. We incarnate here in physical bodies and we get to discover together, through the process of awakening, the truth and magnificence of who we really are.

To quote the sage and author U.S. Andersen once more, “To fully uncover the Secret Self is no doubt the final goal of evolution. When the inhabiting spirit has fully emerged from matter, then the Godhead will be revealed at last with all its conscious power and infinite realization.” (1,p.41)

In the end, "evil" is a necessary part of the evolution process. It's all part of the game.

At this time in history we are entering a period of MASS SPIRITUAL AWAKENING. When we join our hearts and intentions to manifest a society built on love and mutual respect, we will have come far in in this process of self-realization. Never before has it been as certain as it is now that we are interdependent. We have a grand opportunity to discover the truth of this "secret self" together and to recover our unconscious connections to nature and one another. This is what it means to be fully human.

So, join me in using these magical healing tools to bring peace, harmony, and fulfillment to everyone on the planet. Together, we can break the spells that have been cast to control and manipulate, and use those same tools to create a completely new world!
